    Thanks so much for your reply. I use both pre-oil and after shave every time when I shave so it might be the amount of pressure I use. I might want to just go to the straight razor then if it's a whole lot different than using blades.

    Do yourself a favor. Get the real McCoy. There's a huge difference.

    It is definitely different. It may be good to switch now. You have probably learned a lot about your face and using a bare blade. Now would probably be pretty good so you don't have to do any unlearning o a shavette for straight razors.

    I belieave he is concerned with the gold wash on the spine,you would tape such a blade.

    There is no gold on the spine bevel but honing the correct way & rolling the spine over the stone could certainly damage the gold if not taped.

    Your first razor that you hone you are going to make mistakes. [Third or fourth also!]If the gold makes you worried spend $20 less and buy one with out it.
