People use it all sort of different ways from what I can tell but what I do is after a shower while my face is still damp I put about a quarter size amount in my palm and apply to whole area I shave and then I put the lather over top of it. It seems to create a slick surface under the lather and an added layer of protection. I usually put it on one time but have used it once in a while just before my ATG pass (again before the lather).

Try different ways and see which one you like the best. I don't think you can do it a 'wrong' way. It's what works for you but for what it's worth this is how I do it.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Ta. For now, while I'm trying to get my lathering better, I will leave it. This means I have my lathering problems highlighted and not hidden by oil. When I have my lathering regularly as good as I can then I will 'treat' myself to some oil with the above duly noted

I really like Nuage Men. 20ml in a squirty tin from Asda for £1.
It does the job, smells good and is cheap!

I have found that I like Maggard Razors Unscented Pre Shave Oil with Glycerin. I have tried the scents and they are great but I am not concerned with how my preshave oil smells, well as long as it does not smell bad that is. I like how it works and usually get a better shave when I do use it. Keep working on your lather and once you figure that out you may not even want or need an oil.

Just as a way to increase lubrication you may simply try adding a few drops of Glycerin to your soap/cream... You can get Glycerin at Grocery Stores/Pharmacies and it is really cheap... Just play with the amount but starting with 4-6 drops added straight to your cup/scuttle prior to whipping your soap/cream may make a nice difference for you.
