Every razor I've had rescaled by people need to be honed again, I'm sure that's not always the case but it's so easy to touch the edge on the scales when putting it back together.

Seems fine but only time will tell I suppose. Shooter is going to send me a loaner (5/8") that he will prepare, hone, strop etc. to give me a solid frame of reference for what "fine"/shave ready is.
I've had literally zero nicks or cuts at all (guitar/violin player's hands, what can I say) when I do my side burn to jaw bone pass on either side, or under my problematic right jaw bone.
Didn't shave today, but, tomorrow I'll do the same as before and hopefully get to a point where I don't have to go back and redo the side burn to jawline with my mach3. Hopefully I can get the against the grain technique down, otherwise it looks like I haven't even shaved lol

    Update
Just shaved again after a careful stropping on paper. When I say careful, I mean I but my finger on the spine as I stropped to make sure that the "pressure" was only on the spine and so that the edge made proper contact.
    My face feels...bad.
I'm still trying out of pure stubborn-ness and my unwillingness to write the razor off.
It's frustrating to not be able to tell if it's the edge or my technique but I suppose I'll have to wait until I get the one shooter is sending to be able to narrow it down. I try all different angles when I shave and I still cannot get so close that I don't look like I haven't shaved at all...even on the cheek area (never mind the chin).
I really hope that I don't regret buying this particular razor...

    Kyle,
    Just wait for it...

OK, I have your loaner packaged and ready to go as well as a old strop insert from my SRD strop that I had nicked. This strop insert will get you thru until you have your new strop in, you might attach it to a board to make a paddle strop out of it...that's what I would do. The razor is a 5/8 round tipped razor of good and hard New York steel. I know it's properly honed as I just finished shaving with it and it shaves as any of my razors should. I have disinfected it, stropped it, oiled it, put it in a razor box, then put the box inside a zip-loc bag. I will try to get it to the mail this morning depending if I get my call to go to work or not...I'm on call 24/5.

I would recommend that you just rest your face and shave with what you used to before your quest of using a straight until this one arrives, just stay with your good shave soap & your brush as your face deserves it...that can stuff is for the birds. Once you have this razor in hand, it's up to you. If you perpare your beard, shave & not scrape, this razor should give you a minimum of 30 quality shaves no matter how tough your beard...just strop at least 40x after the shave and 60x (my recommended minimums) before the shave.

You have to understand that if you try to "force" a great shave, you will be much longer in attaining it.

Just relax, take a deep breath, let your face heal...and wait for it.

I was just thinking the same thing today (about using my mach3 until the one you're sending arrives).
I do enjoy my routine of Proraso pre-shave cream, Proraso shaving cream (I agree with you about the can stuff) and then the shave oil as an aftershave...feels great lol
I'm actually surprised at how quickly my face recovers latley (probably because I've made a point to shave every day now).

Thanks again for what you're sending me!
What would you recommend I use to to attach it to a board?

Scott, there are few people as helpful and giving as you here and we could all take a page out of your book when it comes to it. Not only did you help me out, now I see you helping another Canadian and I thank you for that. You're the best kind of person.

    BTW STILL loving that Wapi!

Kyle, after reviewing the pictures of the razor you're attempting to shave with I've sent an email to you to explain why it might be causing so many issues. The most serious issue being a significant frown of the blade. If you repair this frown you're going to lose precious steel and at that point the razor wouldn't really be worth it in MY opinion. 3/8 for ME is the smallest I'd ever go.

Can you measure the blade at the most narrow point? That will give us an idea as to how wide the razor would be after a frown repair. Also, There is quite significant hone wear on the spine which could be causing some issues with bevel angle. Honing with tape would be quite beneficial, again in my opinion, to getting it 'shave ready'. This thing might be better off left in a drawer and kept as a memory of your first ever straight.

I just sent a message to Lynn, if he did indeed hone this blade and have it in his hands, I'm very interested in his opinion.

I'm kind of regretting buying this razor and not getting something off of SRD...this thing has caused me nothing but problems and headaches so far. I feel like I'm now stuck with a razor that's all but useless to me.

There is no frown, btw, only a slight smile to it.

The razor went out in this evenings mail, you should have it in about a week...let me know when you receive it. It's one directly from my rotation cabinet, so I know it will serve you well & help you through your learning curve. Just because you are putting a hold on your straight experience, don't let it keep you from educating yourself here on SRP. If you have any questions, just ask...you know how to reach me.

Also ask Lynn his opinion on a 5/8 Electric Cutlery razor with a round tip for a first razor. You will see that you will have some good steel in your hands.
