It also introduces another option into the great rinse/wipe debate: just lick your blade clean.

For what it's worth, my own shaving-related purchases did taper off when I found my One True Blade, whose ergonomics are perfect for me. My recent purchase of a Zulu hone was the first in nearly a year.

I think the trick is to figure out exactly what you want and just purchase that. That will save you from spending on a bunch of close approximations that don't quite satisfy you.

Of course, it helps that I don't crave a seven-day set of TIs or multiple hues of Eschers.

I did manage to set, and follow, a personal rule when I bought my shotgun: that I wouldn't go with shotguns where I had gone with flyrods. And, almost fifteen years later, I still only have one shotgun and, I dunno, maybe nine flyrods?

Razor count: not sure. Five or six in rotation, many others to sell. Three brushes. Buncha soaps. Two strops; one's cordovan shell. Buncha hones but no Eschers. All the contemplative enjoyment, priceless.

Man I sure do take my hat off to Nativeson for his post.. Talk about keeping it real, I've only got about six months into this hobby and I'm truly in love with it but good god I'm in the thousands$$$ on what I've spent and I must say it puts a smile on the face. I think it is expensive up front and it can be expensive if you keep purchasing. I do have RAD I buy razors and sometimes I do not even know they are coming in the mail. I find oldies when im bored. Yes my wife thinks I have a sickness, but I do make up for it sometimes. I had a yardsale this weekend and made 300 bucks on old razors strops and hones that I do not use anymore. I made a couple of contacts and even had a guy show up and commison me to make him a set of scales and hone a couple of his blades. So if you are a hobbiest you can make your money back very slowly. I would think I am about even when I take into account what I have sold and what I actually keep for my own personal tac.

Change your signature in your "settings" link at the top right of the page.

Like anything it is as cheap or as expensive as you want to make it. If you read on the web that shaving with a straight is cheap, don't believe everything you read on the web. Hello my name is Bob and I am an ........ well, you know the rest of that line.

Funny, prior to reading this thread i advised a newbie that this can be "a slippery slope".
I even created my personal signature that advises the same.
Then flipped over to this thread and had to laugh out loud.

There is a large difference in costs between "Shaving" and being in this as a hobby...

I can easily put together a full kit, including 2 SR's, Strop, Brush, Soap, & Barber's Hone, for $100 and shave comfortably for years... Compare that to using Cans and Diposables.. (There is a comparison here on SRP)

The problem is that people don't listen to the most important piece of advice we give here, "Slow Down"
