Thread: Semogue........Good brushes !

Steph, I have a 1305 that is fully broke in and it is a dream brush, I am playing with an everready 1000 currently but my 1305 still sees action at least once a week

My poor badger is feeling lonely.....Semogue Rocks !

I used my well worn 1305 last night. Such a great brush. I'm after a 610 and 620.

I have 2 Semogues and began the break in process like this: lather 10 times a day in the palm of your hand. In a few days, you have a primo brush. Semogues are excellent.

I'm sure it works, but honestly I'm about to go have shave number six and am thoroughly enjoying the natural process. I not only have no regrets on this brush but......well....just that ha ha .

Recent 1305 convert, here. After decades with badger I tried a Vie-Long horsehair brush and liked it a lot (except for a week-long musty smell). My son bought me the Excelsior 1305 Semogue for my birthday last month and I am very pleased with it. I don't seem to suffer the problems about having a hard time making a lasting lather with stiff bristles. I like the way the bristles massage in the lather and the long-ish handle fits my large hands comfortably.

Some say the paint chips off. Others say the paint stays on if you don't bang the handle around. Dunno about that but I sprayed my with gloss urethane clearcoat just in case.

I mean I get the softness of a badger. I have one, but really My skin is not so sensitive that I feel like a boar brush is ripping me to shreds or anything. It's really quite relaxing to use. And it lathers great.And since the price is considerably lower I just find good points all the way around y'know.

Semogue 830 is a great all around brush. I love my other brushes too but this one is great.

Gentlemen, I have owned a variety of Semogue boar brushes through the years. My current lineup includes: 620, 830, 1305, Owners Club, 2012 LE and 2000. I can't say which is my favorite, because each serves a different purpose. The 620, which has the shortest loft, is the best face lathering brush I have ever tried. The 830 is next in line in that respect. The Owners Club, the LE and the 2000 are all big brushes and I use them for the deep and narrow mugs. From all the boar brushes I have used through the years, of all brands, the Semogue 1305 is the best all around and the most comfortable. I have two versions of the 1305, one is the unbleached and with a handle painted in the Italian flag pattern (produced strictly for the Italian Barber in Canada). The other is the standard model. I am quite fond of these two brushes. Once these Semogue boar brushes are broken in they are a delight to use.

So then...Here I am, approx. 2 months into it and haven't touched my badger since buying this 1305. Gotta say I think I'm pretty much converted. This brush has only gotten better with each use. If it breaks for some unworldly reason, i'll get another Semogue. Probably won't look back to badgers as the price and performance of this brush has justified itself many times over. Yep... I like it when I find something that is affordable and very practical . Kinda like Corncob pipes(But I do like my Briars). Kudos to Semogue and the Portuguese
