For a new brush I just use Glen's (gssixguns) Borax treatment and then take it in the shower with me shampoo and conditioner for the brush as well as me.
Nice part about this is the brush is clean and it has soaked up its water, quick shake (or whatever your method for removing the excess water) and you are ready to go.
