Good quality budget silvertip brush
Looking for suggestions for a good quality silvertip badger hair brush under $100. I currently have a Whipped Dog silvertip which is good for the price, but it usually sheds 2-3 hairs per shave, and I'm wondering if there is something better out there without breaking the bank. Is there a noticeable difference in face feel/performance between say a $50 silvertip and a $150 silvertip (assuming neither shed)? Or is it just about looks and bragging rights?

Thanked: 3226What type of silvertip do you like? What kind of face feel do you like. Just taking a stab in the dark without knowing the answers to those questions I say Semogue Owners Club (SOC) 2 band badger.

Check out the new RazoRock Silvertips hand made by Zenith in Italy. They are excellent brushes and within your budget. I got one about a month ago.

To answer your first question: yes there is a significant difference in budget vs high end silver tip brushes, but that doesn't mean they're "bad" per se.
Example-I have a Shavemac Finest which is a truly fine brush. The knot is a Shavemac "middle of the road" badger, yet I much prefer it to a TGN silver tip I have in another brush which was far more costly. My Muhle silvertip was more spendy than my Semogue 2015 HD, but I prefer the Semogue. Point being-yes there is a difference, but money alone does not factor into what makes a brush completely better than another.
Getting back to the shopping aspect-
Semogue 2015 is a great silvertip and can be had at a reasonable price. Also, don't forget to check the Classified sections of the various forums; there are some deals to be had there.Last edited by Phoenix51; 02-21-2016 at 08:11 PM.

Thanked: 14As the OP has correctly guessed, it is a large measure of bragging power, but there is a difference in face feel. Some guys like wet mops, others wire brushes, and the "best" brush will vary with the preferences. I'd submit that the Simpson's in Best Badger are as good a buy as can be found in badgerland. They are more economical than the higher grades, and make plenty of lather. A Simpson Duke 2 or Colonel 2XL in Best will be under the OP's objective, and get you an iconic Simpson's brush. If economy is more important the new generation of synthetic brushes perform just fine, and can be had for very little coin (Maggard's 24mm is $11.95!)

Thanked: 5You can go to TGN and buy a knot, handle and epoxy. . . You could assemble just about any combination for less then 100 bucks.
