I'm still new and cheap. I took one of my guinea pig's feed bowls and it works perfect so far. Don't think she would like the idea of me using her hide for a brush, though.

This is a question, do metals affect the lather? For instance does silver, brass, nickel or copper have any effect. Curious, I've noticed from DE shaving that Alum affects any soap or SC lather to the negative, I was wondering if metal does the same.
Kind regards,

I have seen people use metal, plastic and ceramics and no-one ever mentioned lather contamination. What I have read in my forum surfing is that metal bowls conduct the heat quickly. Ceramic takes a while to gain heat but holds it well, and plastic is very dependent on the thickness. Texture helps in building lather and also helps you keep your grip.
With regards to metal contamination....if one would do it I would think that it would possibly be copper or pewter. Both are soft and oxidize quickly. However I don't think there is enough metal being deposited into our shaving lather to affect it. Those with sensitivities however might run into problems but I'm sure they already know what to avoid.
