    Default Mug VS bowl

    Hello everyone

I am well on my way to having all my supplies I need to start shaving.
    but i still need a mug/bowl.

I am having trouble decideing what to get. I know its all personal oppinion, but what materials, style work best.

I was trying to find a nice mug, but just cant decide how I want it to look. or what it should be made of. I have seen alot of wooden bowls and such on here aswell.

So I was hoping you guys could sound off on what you like to use and why.

I use a pewter Quaich. It has handles on both sides and is about 3.75" across. Looks nice works great. Use it to lather creams or melt glycerin to fit.

I use both, and both work well. You could also go a little further and get yourself a scuttle. I hear great reviews about the ones from Georgetown Pottery and Sara Bonnyman. OR you could go vintage and find an old shaving scuttle on eBay.

Methinks this will evoke a different response from every person. My preference would be a wide mug with a small handle (to fit no more than about 2 thumbs in). The handle makes it much easier to keep a good grip on IMO. Places like Target or Wally World have great ones for under $5.

Or, if you decide you're all into hot lather, you may begin to look into getting a scuttle. Be careful though, because some are meant for mixing lather in, and others are meant only for storing it after mixing.

Well, I'll provide the "Ostensible" answer, and say: "Use What You Like" !

.....Now, I'll say THIS about THAT:

I love a nice mug, and over the years, have used everything from a coffee mug to something actually designed for shaving.....(like a beautiful "Old Spice" mug, that I bought NEW !....not from an antique store), and it had genuine Old Spice shaving Soap installed in it !.......God, I feel Old !

Today, I really like the "Apothecarty" Mug like the one Lynn used in his video, (and you can buy new from emsplace.com)......like this:

Lather in hand, never could get it right doing it on the face. Will switch to wooden bowl at one point, just need to get one =).

My favorite is a thrown pottery bowl I made myself, both because I could control the shape and because I made it

i have a traditional scuttle for wintertime, an old spice mug with melted soap for soaps, and a $2 bowl from target for cremes. i use all 3, like all 3, all 3 have their purpose.
i would say i use the mug more than anything. not really cold enough on the scuttle to take advantage every day. plus i can get by ususally day to day with a one pass shave so i don't need to keep lather warm.
the bowl is good for cremes, but lately i have been using and liking soaps much better. plus i think i would rather use a bowl with a little texture on the inside.
the mug is short, easy to utilize, simple for the purpose. melt the soap in microwave for 15 secs. easy washout. and classic.

to each their own. try till you find something you like. then find something else. then acquire more. instant dispenser acquisition disorder.
