The one in persimmon is on my list to Santa!
(I suspect that I might not be able to wait until Christmas though!)
Thanks for the heads-up!

HELL YES!
I just got mine in today and boy was I impressed! A note about the shipping: I gave them a PO Box, but they use UPS. They emailed me about this and I told them to just send via USPS and charge me the extra shipping; it impressed me that they did this as most people seem to not be willing to. Also I ordered a strop from another commonly used site (not naming any names because I'm not trying insult the other business) about 3 days before ordering this scuttle and I have yet to see the strop, so GTP is winning in the customer service.
I will take a picture and post later.

I would have to agree about the customer service. I ordered mine last Friday, but got a little worried today that they may not have received the order, since my account hadn't been billed. So I called them to ask about it.
"Well no we don't charge the account until we ship the order, that's only fair. We shouldn't charge you until we can ship it."
Simple logic and I was happily informed that my scuttle was in the kiln, and should ship out next week!

Kent-
What color scheme did you order?
(Just curious!)

Hamada and Purple. I have an old, characterature mug that was made for my Dad years back. It has some similar colors from what I could tell on the Georgetown site.
You can see the mug here.

Thanked: 12Newbie to scuttles
I have tried to reconcile many scuttle threads to learn whats up with them-
When I first attempted Str8 shaving many years ago all I had was a mug the size of a coffee cup which held the soap in the bottom. Worked well but what did I know? Evidently NADA
I never got lather like I have seen in these threads or scuttle sites-
But then I really started looking hard and as an old soap guy was befuddled?
The soap doesn't actually go in the scuttle-Right?
The scuttle is just to make more lather and it stays hot-Right?
So we (I) still need something to actually apply the initial soap to the brush-Right?
On that note what is the alternative for simple round soaps-
Saw a tube of Latoya(sp) lotion- is that used instead of round soap??
While I am not a student with very little counter space I was hoping to reduce the amount of gear when I travel.
Does anyone make a scuttle one can set the soap into and whip up hot lather- an all in one thing without all the lids etc Oskar shows on his site?
I am really getting restarted with the str8 and doing pretty well- even though my WH Case razor wasn't used in years and had not ever seen a strop it cut a little- Then I came here and learned about the hones-
WORLD O DIFFERENCE my friends. Shaves well even though I evidently do not preform the HHT properly its sharp now and hopefully will get sharper as i get more practice.
So now I need to know about this little lather making machine called a scuttle

No... no need to have the soap in the bottom of the scuttle.... Just would be in the way.
My soaps are in the tins with lids..... like the SRD soaps. Just work the soap into my whetted brush and whip up the lather in the warmed scuttle.
My method is this: fill the scuttle with water both in bowl and chamber.... Nuke in microwave for 2 minutes... Cork the chamber and pour off the water in the bowl. Put a raisin sized dab of cream and a squirt of glycerin in the bowl. Load my whetted brush with soap from a puck or tin and then start whipping in the scuttle. I then add small amounts of hot water as I whip until it builds. I usually have no problem making a scuttle FULL of thick lather if I want. Just have to keep at it for a couple of minutes. If I am in a hurry..... Just whip a few seconds and away I go.......Stays nice and warm for thirty minutes or more. I am usually done in twenty though....

Thanked: 12Thanks Berry-
On the subject of cream-
Is it a substitute for soap or an addition as you use it-
Put another way could you travel with a scuttle and tube (?) of cream and a razor and get by for a few days? Perhaps a strop might be required?

Thanked: 530For travel, I just use cream, a coffee mug, a strop, a brush and a razor... Scuttles are really just luxuries
At home I use cream, or soap, a scuttle, and three strops >.<
