Thread: thater brushes comments

I just noticed SRD was stocking Thater brushes, i was reading good reviews about these brushes and just wondered if anyone has any more input,thanks

I love the finest silvertips. I had a chance to try one at Lynn's place, and I'm going to order one as soon as I can afford to.

I just ordered a H. Thater from SRD. It should be arriving at my domicile shortly. Once it does I'll break it in and let you know how it is.

"Quite highly" does not describe it properly. When I first tried one, I was so impressed, I told Lynn that these should be made available to the American market. Took me about 18 months to get him to order one himself. Through SRD, they are now available at extremely attractive prices, for which you guys should be thankful to the old boys.

As far as their finest badger line goes, you will be extremely hard pressed to find anything that will match the bang-for-buck factor of a Thäter. The bristles have the backbone of a boar or pure badger, but the tips have the softness of the finest of the finest. This will give you the ability to lather soaps and creams alike, while obtaining the comfort you would expect from whatever your current favourite is - and beyond. The shape of the handles is optimised for ergonomics - you will have to have held one with moist fingers to appreciate that, but you will not be disappointed.

In a nutshell, I would recommend a Thäter over any other brush I know (and that includes Simpson, Rooney, Shavemac, Plisson, and Thiers Issard).

PS Just for the record, German does not have a th-sound, and therefore, the "Th" in Thäter is pronounced like a "t", not a "th".

Well, I have on on the way from Germany however due to the problems with that Volcano it might be Xmas before I get it.

I've been interested ever since Robin first posted on them months ago but I like a bit of scritch in a shaving brush. Do any of their line offer the celebrated scritchy feel that some of us like ?

I am trying to get a better idea, compared to something I am familiar with. How does it compare to the Shavemac silvertips in terms of softness of the tips and backbone, Robin, since the bulb shape is quite similar? How about the Plisson?

I, too, got to try Lynn's Silvertip Thater...

If you can afford it, BUY ONE. IMO it does beat Rooney, Simpson, and any other ones I've tried so far... Really, they are phenomenal brushes and I can't wait to get one of my own... Absolutely sublime on the face

I have only ever used a Shavemac once, so I cannot say anything about them. Thäter brushes have more backbone than the Plissons I have tried (three European whites), and I like the way they feel on my face better overall. Plisson are incredibly expensive, and I have never understood why, really.

That said, I find it almost impossible to give a recommendation for anyone else. All I can say is that I like them immensely, and SRD's prices offer a tremendous value for money.
