Thanked: 17Lathe Brush
I was given a mini-lathe last year.
Although it's been fifty years since I last used a lathe, I was keen to have a play.
I had a nice piece of stabilised walnut, an off cut from a Purdey gunstock, so I took a chance, hoping not to cock it up.
Also using a piece of Sambur stag antler, I ended up with this.
The knot is a 25mm Manchurian Badger, set at 52mm. The walnut has had two coats of gunstock oil, (what else could I use ), followed by Renaissance Wax to both wood and antler.
Perfect, it certainly isn't, but OK for a first attempt, I feel.

Thanked: 4826What a great looking little lathe. The brush came out well. I agree with Braz that it has a real antique look about it. It mush have been a substantial piece of stag antler to get that collar from it. Nicely done.

I'm sort of cringing over the Purdey gunstock part...can you elaborate? I'll just assume you did not cannibalize a Purdey for the stock
Very handsome brush!Last edited by WW243; 04-01-2016 at 08:01 PM.

Thanked: 237That looks like a metal lathe, or a jewelers lathe. Glad it all worked out. I'm still trying to get better with my tools before I commit to making my first handle. Nice job!

Very nice. Has a 18th or 19th century look. I like it.
