I am worried about the crab people and the llamas. We really need to be worried about them.
From their stillness came their non-action...Doing-nothing was accompanied by the feeling of satisfaction, anxieties and troubles find no place

Man, did you have to bring llamas into it? I hate them and consider them pests to be shot on site like weasels... the locals llama farmers have not always been amused
to the xbox point they are pure evil playstation is much better for wasting time! wish they existed when I was young I would not have spent so much time studying, writing papers and other worthless acts.
I do not even like the ipads my local school gives to students for "educational" purposes. at the end of this past year the school admitted that the average use of the the ipad was 3.5 hrs a week for educational pursuits and 23.4 hours a week for entertainment, they got them through a grant so the district is out nothing .... sweet deal for apple and Verizon that provides the 3g service.Last edited by syslight; 08-08-2013 at 05:29 PM.

Thanked: 1587Yeah Jim - there was this "Ipad-based learning environment" project being shown around Universities here not long ago - by an academic from a southern university who had actually published a paper in a journal on it I believe, or at least had one in press. They presented a seminar to us on their work.
During questions someone asked "why not any tablet? Why ipad?" Well, see, Apple funded the project and the seminar series. It's quite hard not to see the whole thing as an advertorial with Apple and Microsoft and their paid-for "academics" hawking their wares across the country like some kind of travelling snake oil salesmen dressed in professors clothing.
The problem as I see it is money. It's all very well for Governments to cut research funding and to promote private-public "cooperative" funding. But be honest: do you really think listed companies, like Apple and Microsoft, with share-holders are prepared to throw millions of dollars into academic research purely for the betterment of mankind's understanding? I don't think so.

Cooperative funding and grants to education just reduce that tax liability, while acclimating the young to "your" technology to help make loyal lifetime customers. I still like libraries and BOOKS! sure an internet search is faster but I have learned more while reading books and wandering about in libraries than I ever did online.
I think education should focus on the process not just the end result.
yes game systems and wi-fi in classroom sound like a great idea ... but do they harm more than they help? I've seen these little monsters fresh from college, sitting is a meeting with their tablet playing stupid games not paying attention and certainly not working and they wonder why they do not get promotions.
everybody needs recreation time but you should at least give your employer 4 good hours of work a dayBe just and fear not.
