A truly great man, so humble and dignified in everything he did. Rip, May your legacy never die.

I guess all the shows about him that will be on TV now won't talk a lot about his "early years".

I wish to extend mine and my wife's condolences to our South African members on the great national loss your country has suffered. We have had the privilege of visiting South Africa and fondly remember it and all it's wonderful people warts and all. Moving forward we fervently hope his ideals do not die with him to the detriment of South Africa.

If you really know and understand this guy's complete life and his hatred he spewed out regarding his love of communism and the number of people killed under his reign, you might not believe he was so inspirational. You can tell a lot of a man by the company he keeps. Search for his wife Winnie and neck lacing. Also look at the man's entire life before he was made a demigod.

I for one will not miss him. He was not the fantastic inspirational person he was made out to be.

Tho he never spoke of himself as being better than anyone, it was a war and he knew what he did wasn't "being nice".
So, he himself I can in someway respect, not those who put a glory on his head!

I'm going to take a guess here that you're an American citizen - and if I'm correct I'd like you're opinion on those people who fought for equal rights in your country within the same time frame that Black people were having to do the same in South Africa.

As for knowing people by who they associate with, I'm surprised by the names of people who have expressed a like for your post.

In parallel to the american civil rights movement Mandela was more of a black panther than a MLK jr way back when....... Pretty ironic for a conveyor of peace.

What's even more ironic is that in a country where the white population has plenty of guns, Mr. Mandela managed to live to 95- unlike Mr. King.
