Would someone in the US help me out?
Some sellers on ebay don't ship outside the US. Don't know why but it's annoying.
Should I encounter a good deal from such a seller, would someone here be willing to let me ship it to their place so that he/she could then forward it to me?
Any postal service cock-ups would of course be my responsibility.
I know this may sound strange, and rest assured I don't plan to do this often, but the only US people I know well enough to ask this from are SRP members.

Bruno,
I'd be willing to do this from time to time, especially if you're willing to wait a day or two for me to reship your item.
Just let me know whenever you're considering buying an item.
Thanks,
Josh

Same here Bruno. I'm happy to help if I can. Just might take a day or two to ship out from me. I live on the East coast near Boston in the US. I shipped something to Australia via US Postal Global Priority Mail and the charge was $5.05 USD. If it is under 16 ounces, it doesn't even need a customs form. Global Parcel post is a bit cheaper, but takes considerably longer.
As for the 'why' question, it is because of fraud. Many folks have been burned by overseas transactions, so they've got a bad reputation. One of the problems is, if someone commits fraud here, we can simply call our local police, they'll contact the offender's local police and start an investigation. Outside the US, it's not so cut and dry. Language barriers, differing laws and sometimes lack of empathy towards the victim are all possibilities. Last, since the US economy is about the same size as that of the entire EU, many people in the US would rather not take the risk seeing that they can often sell their wears in the US. Note, this it primarily for internet auction type transactions. For retail products, I can't comment.

one hand washes the other
Maybe if you could ship me one of those Bundeswehr bulletproof vests on Ebay.de that no one wants to ship overseas.
Just a thought.

I was thinking the same thing. Buying a bulletproof vest is a sure way to draw attention to yourself in Belgium.
The police does not like people having bulletproof vests. The only shootings here (apart from the rare wacko on a shooting spree) are if a family drama gets out of hand and ends in a hostage situation.
In such a situation it would make a police intervention more dangerous for both the police and the hostages. They also fear that people will buy them with the intent of taking on the police during robberies.
In all fairness though, you can still buy them but in Belgium there is no reason to own a bulletproof vest unless you work in security or another high risk job.
That said, shipping one to the US could earn you an interview with someone from one government agency or other.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
