I am interested in your statement that your group was the first allowed to ski. Here in MN there are very few restrictions. No Wake areas and swimming beaches for example. They apply to any watercraft though. I wish though that some people would realize that the good fishing areas are relatively limited and if you see me there go have your race on the other side.

Thanked: 580Crayfish season has been the best in a few years. Easily getting our quota even after the octopus had a few.

Thanked: 1936Went out yesterday on a small lake of about 100 acres because it got up to 61F, couldn't help myself. Caught nothing but a good time with my step-dad who has really been my dad about 30 years. You freshwater fisherman, how do you do it? I was thinking they would hit around docks and at 15-20' deep...nothing at all for either of us on spinners, plastic worms, crank bait, jigs, rattle traps, flashy, noisy, literally everything I had in the tackle box. Only thing we didn't try was live bait of any kind.
Surface water temp was 44F.Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanked: 4826That's why it is called fishing and not catching! Some days they can't stay away, some days you wonder if there are any left. As long as you had fun, enjoyed the day and the company that is all that really matters.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Thanked: 1936Ya that's for sure. Waiting right now for my lil' bro to show up so we can go out again...different lake though. I don't get much family time with my job and life, so I really do enjoy it for sure!
As a side note, what do you guys think about this for my 2014 basstracker aluminum bass boat: http://www.fishonsports.com/220.html
Any of you guys know of any other places that I can get one cheaper? Was hoping for the $200-300 rangeLast edited by ScottGoodman; 01-17-2015 at 04:09 PM.

I only fished for bass and in water temps that low you have to fish REAL slow and use a very sensitive rod to help feel them pick it up. I used all G. Loomis rods but they are $200-300 each for the good ones. I sold all of mine a few years back and don't fish anymore.

Thanked: 1936No luck on round two fishing, the water was even colder at 42F. I picked up some deeper divers and got down to the 10-15" and still nothing. I guess I will let the water warm up a bit...had a great time though, what a beautiful day. Just got unhooked from the boat at home and we got a multi-department grass fire call and spent the rest of the evening putting out a 1K acre fire. Cool thing about fires that big in the evening is that the evening humidity works in your favor and the wind typically dies down around here.

I hiked to a couple of ponds and fished this afternoon. I caught my first fish of the year: two eight inch Largemouth Bass. The weather and the hike were most enjoyable.

Here's two from quite a few years back a 6lb Chub on the river Wye and a 12lb wild common Carp from one of the many local free small ponds dotted around my home town, I caught the Chub while fishing for Barbel on luncheon meat, and the Carp was taken using a Pedigree chum floating mixer on a hair rig.
