Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power. -Abraham Lincoln
A blank piece of paper is God's way of telling us how hard it is to be God.- Sidney Sheldon
I find both to be especially true. I've seen good people go through a lot and still be good people, but once power hits them, all bets are off.

a few of my favorites:
It should be the great Business of our Lives to Plant and Propagate our Kind, To throw our Seed into every fruitful Corner, To get it vigorously into the gaping Bottom of every sweet-watered Vale..... ~The Rev. Daniel MacLauchlan, An Essay upon Improving and Adding to the Strength of Great Britain and Ireland, by Fornication, justifying the same from Scripture and Reason, by a Young Clergyman (1735)
If you are ever in doubt as to whether to kiss a pretty girl, always give her the benefit of the doubt. --Thomas Carlyle
What is hateful to you, do not to your fellow man. That is the law: all the rest is commentary. Talmud, Shabbat 31a
My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure.-Abraham Lincoln
After three days men grow weary, of a wench, a guest, and weather rainy.--Benjamin Franklin, "Poor Richard's Almanac [1733], June"
To discuss evil, in a manner implying neutrality, is to sanction it. –Ayn RandLast edited by syslight; 07-19-2007 at 03:47 PM.

"Deny your friends and family
To serve you must betray
Break and enter heaven
Steal but never save
Squander every penny
Empty every heart
Travel every darkened road
Never finish what you start
Always talk to strangers
Make love with whom you may
For God will find good company
for your drinking in the day
So spend your youth on poetry, and spend your cash at play
Each line upon my face is for a girl who went away
A kiss, a song, are fleeting things and fame will always stray
So I'll tell the truth, the best spent youth, is the one you give away"
-T. Duggins of the Tossers
from the song Drinking In The Day
i just love the last line of that
