Thanked: 150This is a very interesting thread, and with all of the posturing, intelectual discorse, and "Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy" going on, it just beggs the question: how many of you have actually read the Constitution and Bill of Rights? It is truely fascinating how many people have this vague idea of what their "rights" are, but have never actually read, and understood, the Constitution and what it entails.
Does anyone here actually know the distinction between a fundamental right, and other rights? Do we actually feel that we have the right of privacy in an international phone call to a country which knowing harbors terrorists? The Constitution protects us from "unreasonable" searches and sezuires. Do you really feel that monitoring international phone calls to such a terrorist nation is not reasonable?
(This is the part where i ranted for about 6 paragraphs, and then deleted them, because, well, read my signature line.)

Thanked: 150hey all, I have been informed by GW that my post was full of "condescension." There was absolutely no disrespect meant to anyone, and I was attempting to point to the articles which were cited, and the need to go to the source of our Laws to determine the righteousness of the current administrations actions. It was way past the time I usually go to bed and my sentence structure was sub par. If I have offended anyone other that GW, I appologize.

um...yeah...
um....yeah......
my statement was heavily influenced by a link to some preppy rap video and I didn't know it was a parody of a Smirnoff product(mostly because I'm too poor to buy that stuff) and got kinda confused
after watching the video and remembering of the post about Jack Handy ranting at singing pigs about fundamental rights... well I got the impression that it was kind of a cheap shot and figured I would make my own
of course the video was a joke ( I had to go Google "Raw Tea" ) and I look like an ass
not the first time and I'm O SO SURE it won't be the last
my bad

Thanked: 0Very big of you GW - respect.
Mark, nothing wrong with your post. I often wonder the same things myself, as a non-American. I am sure it raised more " " then " "

oh no
I don't think people deserve to be complimented for admitting to acting like an ass.
I'll also be the first to tell you that most Americans don't know the first thing about their rights. They have ideas but as we see with my little here, sometimes a little information can be worse than none at all.

Thanked: 0I think if more people in this world had the guts and courage it takes to stand up in front of their piers and say I made a mistake and I am sorry, this world would be a way nicer place.
The compliment is for doing your bit towards making it a better place GW.

I do. I HATE it when people can't or won't admit their mistakes because they're too insecure about being humbled. Admitting our faults is the first step toward improving them and ourselves. People who don't go there tend to become worse than they already are. There is no fault at erring, only failing to admit it. It is a great and gentlemanly example you set.

PS I'd vote for you, Lou.
