Must be that refined English democracy or something that you're thinking about. The ancient Greek Democracy, Roman Republicanism, and modern American Democratic Republicanism have been all about lies, slander, and the politics of personal destruction.

Boy...that thing needs to be parsed paragraph by paragraph! She makes a lot of good points....a large number that I agree with....but I see a lot of selective quoting and cherry-picking of historical events to make her point.

But I personally don't think this is a Conservative/Liberal debate, and I also don't believe that this is a concerted effort by George Bush and the Bush administration to take power, as is insinuated.

It definitely needs another reading or two.

It's worse then that even. Orwells contemporaries, those that try to write works based on these themes, are labelled nuts and cranks by the media (who says it isn't controlled already???) and put into the "self development" or "new age" section of the bookstore.
