If I may be so bold as to ask, what was the final bid and were you pleased with the amount raised.

They got $1400 for it. I was hoping for $1000 so I was more than happy.

That is a good price for a pie safe however we have to remember it was a fund raiser and people with extra cash are usually happy to leave it at a fund raiser, which is after all the purpose in attending.

True - and the Auction Committee had that in mind when they set bid amounts.

Glad they got the funds to help out the school.

After finishing the bed project I started a new project. My son's school have an annual auction to raise money and each family is asked to donate something so I decided to build a pie safe - typically it is a gift basket of items or a gift certificate. I was very happy with the result and the school was happy also.

    Building the case

    Building the doors

Putting the hinges on the cabinet and fitting the doors

Putting the back on the cabinet - used individual boards - the boards inside the cabinet have a bead where the ship lap joints meet. One board to go on the bottom.

    Finally done

Are there a lot of pie theives in your neck of the woods?

One of those sat on my Great-Aunt's back porch. Really old primitive, I used to marvel at it. I wondered why it was referred to as a safe?
    Anyone could open it.

In the days before refrigeration, keeping stuff out in the climate was best, I guess.
The holes ensured air circulation and kept the flies out. The artwork in the tin was bonus, as were most things back then.

    Wish I had it now!

You did a sturdy and faithful reproduction, Cincinnatus. To be proud of and for a good cause.
