Safe travels Mike, and hope all goes smoothly
Need to check my ancestry tree to see if we are related. Nice work!
Thanks my good man. Kind of you to say. And not to hijack John's thread too much, but it went super well.
Lunch ended up almost flowing into dinner hour. 5 hr gtg, for the first time with a half sister 10 years my junior. Tears, hugs, long hugs, and just connecting.
Emotions were beyond description, and I know lots of dem dere descriptive phrases and such. Hehe.
She's smart, and gorgeous, and more eloquent/gracious than I could have hoped for.

Really happy I reached out after 25 years of wondering if I should.
I'm so glad you both don't have the same moustache.
LOL
I am pretty happy to hear that all went well.
Great to hear all went so well Mike. I'm sure it had to be difficult to reach out, but look how rewarding it was
My son came over the other day to help with sawing a dry cured lower pig leg into chunks for cooking so I broke out my great grandfather's meat saw and had it all cleaned up afterwards and decided to show what a little 0000 steel wool and some WD 40 followed by the 0000 and Mothers metal polish could do.
Here's a test sample:

And after 5 minutes with the WD 40 and the 0000 followed by another 5 minutes with the Mothers and the 0000 (I didn't bother to use a cloth and Mothers);

Well being a bit impressed but inherently lazy I went ahead and broke the saw down, removed the old finish on the handle, sanded all smooth and applied a Garnet Shellac finish and cleaned up the bar on my variable speed buffer.
I'm please with the way it came out;

Sorry for no complete before pics--ADD just takes over somethings. :gaah:
Note: It's a bit hard to see but that's a W burned into the handle. I'm wondering if my great grandfather 'Watson Davis' was left handed as I would have put the initial on the side I'd be looking at. He also had scratched the W into what I would think was the back side of his horn scales on his W&B wedge. I'll never know as there isn't anyone around who knew him.

Looks nice John/Now I'm going to have to drag out my camp axe and sharpen it the way I was taught in Boy Scouts. Takes some time but damn does it work well.
Now about shipping it to FL and have a custom sheath made :hmmm:
