I gottcha -- and I don't mean to under-estimate your dip in spirits --- just wanted to comment on how I handle life (not that it helps you any).

How about a good massage? --- appreciating a good looking babe can give you a jolt --lift some weights (excersise) ---- see a good movie (funny) ------ consult with your God ---- go fishing --- dance around like a knucklehead ---- force yourself to smile ----

    well you get the idea.

Do something that allows only for you full attention. Be it shaving, running, computer programming, watch repair, razor restoration...whatever it is make sure it allows you to focus only on the task. This usually helps me to reset myself. Once I am done with the task everything just seems better. OF course YMMV.

That's good advice. For me, riding a motorcycle down a windy road quickly takes my mind off just about everything else.

On the other hand, I enjoy bourbon, too.

    Exercise is very effective.
Some favourite music works well too.
A great meal and most important of all ...
    Good company.

A meal, good company, and a long drive solved the problem.

    Thanks for the Ideas!

This topic ties in directly with the one about eccentric hobbies. When I'm feeling low, I get to painting my hobby miniatures. This takes up alot of concentration and relaxes me. The key words to get back on your feet again is "Get Out of the House". Make yourself go and see a movie, go walk around the park and look at the ladies walking and jogging. I find this most uplifting.
    My two cents.

Hunting... year round... if not there is always target to shoot and rifles, pistols and shotguns that need cleaning and oiling.

Of course the same could be said about my razors.
    Be just and fear not.

Do anything that brings you joy. Wherever your happy place is, go there. For me, a few cold beers or some of my favorite food for the mood I'm in. Might be German, Mexican, or just plum damn insanely hot thermonuclear Thai. I like the endorphine rush that insanely hot food gives.

If it's a workout day, I just have whoever happens to be at the dojo throw me until I tire of getting up. Being thrown has a similar effect to the hydrostatic shock runners get, so it's kinda like runner's high. Surprisingly, throwing people after a bad day doesn't help a bit.

My wife always knows when I'm not in an up and up feeling. I tend to look for a special item that I generally wouldn't get on a normal buy. I'll search out something very special, a kind of hunt to find that one thing that will make me feel good.

Sometimes it's a trip to the range with a few pounds of black powder and a ton and a half of round balls and a brick of caps, see how long it takes to burn through all that stuff

Others... would be a trip to Bev-mo for just that special beer that I haven't tried yet.

Or if I'm really looking to get myselfe killed I order a custom made kitchen knife... of coarse that has it's own issues but thats another day

I am of the mind that the (male) human body requires considerable physical effort put onto it for it to function correctly, and a correctly functioning body is the start of a correctly functioning mind.

Given my rather sedentary lifestyles, the only thing that resets my moods is a decent session in the gym lifting oscene amounts of weight until my muscles fail. It really is the only medicine that works for me.

Plus you are aching so much afterwards that it takes your mind off your bad mood anyway.

Of course it may be that you do manual work for a living in which case this is bunk. Just my 2p's worth.

    Si

ps - I probably sound like I should look like Arnie lol. I'm 6'4 and just shy of 220lb, so nothing of the sort
