Hold "celebrities" and "role models" to even higher standards? Damn straight.

Why do you think kids these days don't behave like proper adults when they get old? (Who's to define proper, I know.) Who do they have to look up to? You know how badly kids long for popularity and, though not the best people to look up to, "celebrities" are the epitome of popular. They get attention all the time from almost all the people. Why should kids behave if their "models" don't? Sure, occasionally the role models get in trouble, but as you see time and again they wiggle out of it.

To me, even though Paris is going back, it's a mockery of principles for an early release, AFTER A REDUCED SENTENCE, to even come into question.

Pfft. Take some responsibility and move along.
    Brian,

You've asked something that reveals another problem. "Who do they have to look up to?" Sadly, celebrities have taken the place of parents as role models. Perhaps if parents took a more active role in being parents and modeling things such as responsible behavior, respect for each other and modeling what healthy relationships should look like, there might be a lesser need for celebrity idolatry.

I was very tempted to deviate into parenting but I have no experience. I completely understand that (most) parents need to step up but where do you think they got their disposition for slacking?

We could blame parents, celebrities, the media, and countless of other things. Problem with blaming is that even after it's all been said and done it doesn't solve anything.

    Just get responsible.

This has to be one big publicity stunt for a new Paris Hilton reality show or something.

My favorite quote of this whole mess:

    MOOOM!!!!!! IT'S NOT RIGHT!!!!!!!!"

Methinks someone should've explained to her that if you do the crime you do the time. I've heard some of the talking heads say that the punishment was excessive, but one Lawyer did say that the most he had seen an ordinary "joe" get was "30 days", combine that 30 days with the fact that she was late to court (Judges don't like that), then I can see the origional 45 days.

Also, the Judge may have been crazy like a fox by giving her 45 days, her actual sentence giving time for "good days" would've been less than the 30 days, and hopefully she would've learned something in the meantime.

Just heard on the radio that she's going back to jail now.
