Pokemon originally started as a brilliant marketing campaign. There was a videogame for nintendo' game boy (which all my friends and I played), a TV show and a collectable card game. All of them have been ongoing for 20 some years. The new smartphone app requires you to walk to landmarks and places of interest. There has been such an increase in foot traffic that many businesses in the area are booming with business. I'll never play, but quite fascinating.

I took the dog for a walk last night. There were more young people out in the park than usual, by far, and most were obviously playing Pokemon. The game is silly and probably a waste of time. I have captured 34 myself.

I think you train them to fight in gyms. I don't expect to make it that far.

dinnermint you are right - this is fascinating. I feel like it's only the beginning and the potential for this type of thing is significant. We'll be at the malls searching for elves and Santa at Christmas, ghosts and mummies at Halloween, Easter eggs, leprechauns on St. Patty's, you name it!

Great idea to get people off the couch, one of my grandsons will literally spend all day gaming if you let him.Into this house we're born, into this world we're thrown ~ Jim Morrison
