    My minor rant...

Why are newer cars not equipped with turn signals...thought they would be standard equipment by now?
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???

One of my ex'es used to complain about me using a turn signal in a parking lot that was fairly empty. I told her I use my turn signals no matter what the situation. Next day, she forgot her signal and almost caused an accident.

Speaking of driving complaints. This may touch a nerve with some, but there are **some** elderly drivers that are so horrendous in my area. I've almost been hit 3 times in the last 72 hours. One tried to T-bone my car, that is how my brother's car was totalled and suffers hip issues to this day. All elderly people, either stopping at inappropriate moments or locations (i.e. slowing down to 40mph in a 70mph for no reason). One lady couldn't work her steering wheel and cut off an entire intersection to make a U-turn when I went to the grocery store. A younger woman (daughter?) started laughing when she saw me using profanity towards the driver.

I know this topic has been brought up and I don't want this thread to be an elderly drivers bashing thread. I am avoiding accidents on a nearly daily basis from all ages, races and creeds. Driving skills in the U.S. are disgustingly terrible. If I was a cop, I would earn the city/county so much money, I'd be up to my eyeballs in paperwork. Many of them let some egregious violations slide. I cannot tell you how many people I have talked to that say "I'm glad we don't have to take periodic driving tests, I would fail." Excuse me? Then you shouldn't be on the road. I would gladly take a driver's test every 6 months or year, if that meant I can drive not feeling like I'm in a Mad Max movie.

Just yesterday, my father sat with a biker that was run off the road when a guy in a pick-up truck failed to look when he merged. The rider skidded across 2 lanes and landed in the grass. Possible concussion, no serious injuries apparent. My father sat there and kept the guy calm and talking while the ambulance came.

Oh I've got several driving rants, but I'll start with this one.

It drives me nuts when people stop, THEN put on their turn signal while they are turning. To me this is worse than not signaling because they are indicating that they know the turn signal exists, they know how to activate it, yet still are too stupid to activate it at the point in time when it could be of any benefit at all.

Others on the list for later...

    Polite drivers (the worst)
People who don't know how to merge onto a highway
People who sit at a stop sign for 10-20 seconds until I come to the cross stop sign and then pull out as soon as I start to go.

I think drivers in the US should have to retake a driver's test periodically, perhaps every four to five years. In addition, new drivers should have to attend classes like the drivers ed courses high schools taught in the past. Part of the proceeds could go to road maintenance.

Yeah using the turn signal while stopping or after the stop really gets in my nerves.

In this part of the country folks have no idea how to merge onto a freeway. They proceed on the merge lane at 40mph and when it ends that's how they enter the right lane and if you happen to be next to them well too bad for you get out of my way.

My driving rant; 2 days ago while coming into a service station, a drunk driver came straight at me on my bike. I turned right, dropped off the road into deep gravel and guess what? Bike and me went down rolling. Driver never even stopped or slowed down, couldn't get my gun out fast enough to se if his tires needed deflated. Oh and was only middle aged. Tc

Man, that's really scary. Glad you're okay.

Do you know he was drunk because he was caught shortly afterwards?

He was in the store buying more liquor and drunk, clerk was having a time with him just minutes before I arrived. As to being ok, well bruised, scraped and my bike had damage. Tc

For his sake, I assume that he had left by the time you got into the store?

I wonder if there is any chance the store's outside security camera got the guy's plate? He needs to be busted for DUI and hit and run. Even if he did not hit you he caused the accident.
