Thanked: 8Well, even though I'm a retired metal-worker, my user name is non-related. In '99, back in TN, I started a Men's Discipleship class titled, "The Blacksmiths' Place". Based upon Proverbs 27:17 "As iron sharpens Iron, So one man sharpens another". I simply acquired the 'handle', "The Blacksmith". The class lasted over 4 years.

Thanked: 271From Yiddish, Mensch: literally, "man," but usually referring to a decent human being, a good, honest person who always takes the high road... from Chicago.
Unfortunately, nowadays, saying what you mean, meaning what you say and knowing the difference between right and wrong can get you in a lot of trouble, hence my status of "Troublemaker".

I took my forum username from one of the best philosophical shavers ever: William of Ockham, an English Philosopher and Theologian who lived in the fourteenth century. He is famous for his ontological razor... (it is also in my line of work...)

Thanked: 7When I first started using the internet I decided a webmail account was a necessity and went to register on Yahoo. All the usernames I could think of were already taken so I decided to use the name of the place I was living closest to at the time: Trewornan in Cornwall.
I've since found that it's convenient to have an online identity seperate from my personal identity, so I always use Trewornan for anything online. It's not that I'm trying to keep my real identity hidden - if someone wanted to, it would be fairly trivial to connect the two and that doesn't worry me.
