Many of my friends and I pay it forward, and I see that here I joined another group with some of the finest folks there are

I have been passing Mike Horn's shaving gear along to new members who are looking to get started and usually on a shoe string. I have found it sad that my request to write Mike's sister Jen a sincere thank you note has usually fallen on deaf ears and many of the recipients have vanished from the forum. I find that a very sad indication of today's society.

However one outstanding member did take time to write a thank you to Jen. Let me tell you a bit about what happened.

I happened to find out that a well known and respected member had a birthday coming up and included in Mike's gear was a partial 7 piece set in a storage case. None are pristine. I decided that if any member would not only appreciate Jen's donation but also write her a nice thank you he would. I sent the package along with a note explaining the history behind the set and that they were his to do with as he pleased. The only restriction was that they couldn't be sold just as Jen had requested.

I received a very well thought out and thankful note to pass along to Jen. I received a response from her this morning and forwarded it to the recipient along with the pictures Jen had included and now I'm passing them along to the membership.

Thank you for forwarding this along. It means so much to me that Mike is still remembered and that there are people who keep his memory alive despite never having met him. I am touched, but more so, I am happy. This is what I had hoped for. Water ripples of a sort. The anniversary of his passing was two weeks ago yesterday and while it often still feels like it all just happened I am finding moments of peace. In remembrance of him, and in a more Mike like way to spread his ashes, I went to the beach and had a sand sculpture made. We went with a Ninja rubber duck. He had a small collection of these and I carry one with me wherever I go. It was perfect and as the tide rose to take it, and him, all away I felt blessed. Blessed to have a brother like mine, whom I love so much and whom so many had the privilege to know. Thank you for helping be such a good caretaker of his memory and of a craft he so enjoyed.

I'm new to SRP, so don't know Mike. But this is just cool.

I am so impressed with his sister -- both for passing along his gear and for the thoughtful send off.

In that 1st picture, it looks like a hand pushing the Mike Duck out to sea and on a journey to that distant rock. Am I seeing that right?

I thought the same thing about the hand and the gesture of gently helping him on his journey.
