Thanked: 481Might vary a little place to place. The body guys that I know literally just do the body repairs. If the suspension is wrecked, or there's an electrical problem, more often than not they sublet that out to a mechanical shop. Few and far between are the shops that handle mechanical and body.
I'm ready for spring. I'm beyond tired of working 2 weeks to get 50-some hour's pay. It'll be nice to have business pick up so I can make an adult's paycheck again lol.
Not to mention the weather around here is screwy and that's had me sick since November. Drops down to freezing at night, jumps up into the mid 70's mid day, then back to freezing in the evening. Plays hell with the immune system.

If the suspension is wrecked..it goes on the frame machine and pulled and suspension is replaced...ain't no mechanic doing that !! That's our job....but we don't get paid a mechanical rate to do it either....that's why no young people are coming into the autobody field...it doesn't pay. when us old guys leave....whos going to fix your car ?? Lol

Thanked: 481That's what always confused me when my friends talk about subbing out the mechanical/suspension stuff. I guess they pull it, then let someone else deal with removing/replacing the wrecked bits.
Being paid a mechanical rate for mechanical work ain't all it's cracked up to be either. We lose our backside on warranty work. Especially when one of those god forsaken new computerized systems has an issue. Ive got 5 hours test driving a hybrid that I'm not getting paid for. The AC system is shutting off the idle stop, and even the guys working right beside the engineers that designed the thing have no clue why it's doing it or what to replace to fix it.
I'm with the young guys, the auto industry just doesn't pay.

Up in the '70s today, and supposed to go to the '80s later this week, or next. When you spend the summer in 95 + degree days a drop of 50 degrees is hard to take. When I did Ironwork outdoors in the winter 40-50 was t-shirt weather, and 70s was hot. Depends on what you're used to I guess.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I just came back from a month travling southeast asia. I know the winter in Denmark will never be as tough compared to many other countries but damn I hate it! If I could live 6 months in a warm country and then go back when it's warm and sunny in Denmark I would be in heaven.
