I'm not really sure "why" I don't like the looks of those spyderco's...they just look wrong to me...maybe slightly alien. I guess some people go for that sort of thing but I'm really fond of classic looking knives.
I found a nice (although bit on the small side) Boker (yes the one mentioned up top) on e-bay for a lot less money than it was on that website.
Also I decided I'll get some knifekits and start building my own. Sometime in the future I'll most likely even grind my own damascus blade out of a larger piece. But for now I'll work on handles and such. I think it'll be fun this way.

william henry
being in the nw i have to cast a vote for one of the many fine knife makers in the area:
http://www.williamhenryknives.com/product/
simply beautiful!
on the lower end are the puma's- another nw company
http://www.pumaknives.com/?n=store&b=74&pl=343
my daily knive is a benchmade- i really like the atlas slide lock on them- truly one handed open and close.
cheers and happy hunting!

I won't be able to afford one of those William Henry knives (Although I'd love one they look AMAZING) but I'm already making inquiries about those Puma's. They look nice and Puma has a pretty good name in the blade world from what I understand. (the razors certainly do).
So if the shipping isn't too high I might end up with one of those in addition to the Boker that's being shipped my way. (I got the Boker for around $30 instead of $150 and I like that deal.)

After much ado about shipping and stuff I went into a brick and mortar store and bought this:
I love it.
Now I should still be getting a small Böker in the mail any day. But that'll be it for now.

Wow....that's a real pretty knife, Alex. I like the shape of the handle, as well as the wood. Is that a burl handle?
...and I can't read the make....is it a custom?
....real nice knife.

Thanked: 2If its a daily carry practical knife, the fancy stuff wont do much. Benchmade gets my first vote in value for dollar at the price mentioned. They do have some traditionally inspired and useful designs.

It's not a custom it's a production. And yes. The handle is a burl.
And I happen to like the knife I bought thankyouverymuch. I think that for me it'll do just fine as a daily carry knife. It's a good steel type and a pretty wellknown knife brand (Herbertz (Just for you Lou) from Solingen) they're right alongside Puma and Böker.
So for my purposes it'll do just fine.

Out of curiosity: are you allowed to carry a knife like that in the Netherlands?
Here in Belgium the police might object to such a knife. Swiss army knives are not a problem but lockable blades are banned I thought.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
