a nice pocketknife.
Ok, I need some help here. Im looking to buy a nice pocketknife. All mmy life I've worked with cheap ones. At the moment I hve a little $$ (around $150,- ) and I'd like to spend that on a nice Damascus blade.
So I'm wondering if you guys have any tips.
Here's my specs that I'd like to incorporate in the knife. Other than these sky's the limit:
1) Price must be $150 or less
2) It must be a folder knife (not a giant hulking dagger, bowie or butcherknife that I'll never be able to take anywhere)
3) The blade must be some kind of damascus (folded) steel.
4) There must be a natural wood incorporated in the handle
5) The damascus must have a decent steel type for a core. (440 VG-10 etc)
So...keeping these tings in mind. Any suggestions?

Boker makes some beauties, but most (if not all) are above your price range. You might get some ideas [here].

Damascus and (a bit of) Bocote
Damascus w/ Buffalo Horn (no wood, and a bit large...nice knife, tho)
a nice Boker Thuya Wood Damascus folder
Damascus Blade AND Damascus Handle! (no wood, though)
Damascus/Rosewood (made in India_ )
There appear to be a lot of choices out there....this should be an interesting thread
While not Damascus steel, I thought these were rather innorvative and interesting:

I have to admit that Thuya Boker is looking very nice.

not damascus
I know they arent damascus but if you want a usable knife I would recommend a Spyderco.
Like I said, no damascus but man are they some nice knives.
I would look at the Manix, Paramilitary, um...
oh yeah do you have blade length laws??
I have a Endura wave and LOVE it.
Of course most of the Spyderco knives will "wave" by simply using a zip tie through the hole.
I waved my Civilian and it works super. Of course the laws in Belgium may not allow a knife as long as your forearm when opened.
Sorry no time to post links like Lou, (we can't all live in Idaho(where all the women are strong and the men are good looking) )
But the link at the bottom has all of them.
Like I said, I don't know where you are in your knife collection but I would rather have a knife that will hold up to beating than something pretty that I am afraid to use.
Just my $.02

and I with Bruno
and I will have to agree with Bruno.
You may have 20 carry knives and just want a pretty one to rub till it shines but if not....
I have a Tasman Salt and Delica with the same handle and clip nd love them both.
The clip is easily the most rugged I've ever seen.
Instead of attaching TO the handle there is a sort of nut - bolt set up through the handle which allows it to be reversed, the tension adjusted by loosing the bolt and turning 90 degrees to the handle to bend the clip, and IT WILL NEVER COME OFF but the only tools required are your two thumbs.
The handle is Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon FRN and although this may sound cheesy at 33% fiberglass they are quite strong.
I have a ClipIt Rescue in Spyderedge (serrated) made of AUS8 and have beat and beat and beat and beat this knife and it just takes it.
I have cut EVERYTHING with this knife including (no shit) sheet metal (aluminum and steel) shingles, tar paper, torch down roof membrane, drywall, small trees, tires (just because) , cables (saw away), vinyl flooring, electrical wires, ropes of all sorts, and everything else that needed cutting (and lots of stuff that didn't)
and I have not managed to damage this knife in ANY way.
THAT is what I look for in a knife. I love that knife. I love it so much I retired it.
I have asked more from that knife than anyone has a right to and it just gave and gave.
What is the best kind of knife you ask??
THE KIND YOU CAN USE
Try this one
http://spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=34
Of course you may just want a pretty knife that is hard to get out and you will be scared to use for fear of breaking.
You could get the other and a Byrd knife (china Spyderco)
like this http://spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=230
and check back in a few months to tell us which you like more
I know I will NEVER dig in my pocket for a knife again.
This one is with me always (even on my PJs) ..... guess who had it on the Swaty??? (and the cushion strop hone, and the Gem, and the 1 micron pasted strop)
How is that for honing a blade with a frown ???
