Thanked: 4All I want in a cell phone is this: totally free from my company. This limits my choices to two, but I never pay a dime for unlimited calls or any phone accessories. I look at the iPhone and think about how many good vintage razors/pens you could get for the same money. I figure that there will be an even better gadget out within a year.
Sheesh!

I have absolutely no use for cell phones. To me they are really long leash that is a pain in the ass to be on (a leash that is). The quality of my life has improved 100% since ridding myself of them.

That's the consumer society that the big businesses are trying to create (with a great deal of success). You buy one of those super-gadget phones and have to use the video-feed or web-browsing feature and get nailed with data fees for those numerous times when you're away from home/office/any other place where you have computer access and you'll die if you don't get on the net or watch a stupid show. Then there's equating love with gifts (just look at Xmas commercials and commercials for jewlery stores). Canada isn't much different than the US other than having more people willing to buy a used car/bike.

Ok, call me a sucker, geek, whatever, but I got an iPhone on Friday...but I agree that it wasn't worth waiting outside for a week (did anyone notice the guy in NYC at the front of the line was convieniently wearing a t-shirt advertising some website? genius, as that company probably paid him enough to make it worth while). In fact, in relatively small Des Moines, I walked past 300 people waiting outside an Apple Store, walked upstairs to a AT&T, stood for 15 min. and walked out with my phone. Simple...but expensive.
Now, AT&T jerked me around for 3 days to get it activated (do-it-yourself-activation...costing $40 and a huge freakin headache) but now that I did, it's worth it. I had a Treo, and a Nokia 9500 (yes, I'm a gadget geek) but my main reason for the iPhone upgrade was very simple...I'm a mac user, and trying to get a smartphone running windows mobile to work with a mac is damn near impossible. I use my cell phone for everything...always have. So something with this amount of storage space, the ability to access and send huge files as needed per clients wishes, and knowing that when I plug it into my machine, everything will sync the way it should...makes it worth it. I'll be able to get a lot more done on the run, which makes everyone I deal with happy...***** for the product * for the service.

Ok, let me just get this out of the way - if I would've had the cash, I TOTALLY would've bought an iPhone.... then hawked it on eBay for WAY more than I paid for it. Honestly, the only reason I'd want one is for the larger, clearer screen, which I imagine will scratch quite easily (thus leading to the purchase of yet another accessory to protect said screen).
My cell phone is the only phone I have. No land line. Honestly, I'm usually not home much, so a home phone is wasted on me. That, and I rarely get calls from anyone other than my fiancee, and I'm in a fortunate situation as to actually enjoy talking to my future wife!
One other thing that I cut out is cable - I don't watch TV, and quite frankly, I don't find myself giving a rat's ass if I fit in with what society deems as the "proper" image. Is there a connection? Probably, but I was always my own person, which is why I was never one of the cool kids in school. C'est la vie! The only TV I have any interest in watching is stuff like Animal Planet, History Channel, etc. I'm a bit of an information junkie, particularly when it comes to science and history!
I'm a little old-fashioned, which is one of the reasons, and I'm sure I'm not alone on this, I was drawn to the world of shaving with a straight - I think that for the most part, old ways were better ways. Granted, I'm still waiting for my first razor to arrive, but I've already used my brush, scuttle, and shaving cream with my soon-to-be-dust-collecting Fusion, and for the first time in I don't know how long, I was able to shave twice in one week with no razor burn or other irritations or bumps. So yeah, I'm on my way!
