Libby maintains his innocence, as would be expected. I don't know whether he truly tried to cover anything up, but as the investigation found there was nothing to cover up, and as I personally don't always have 100 percent recollection of every conversation I have, I'm willing to cut him some slack.

The lead up to the Iraq war, and its possible cover up, is the backdrop to the whole Libby affair.

The grand jury, apparently, couldn't find anybody to charge in the leak. This might or might not have been the case had Libby told the whole truth.

I could be wrong, but my impression is that the prosecutor quickly pinpointed Armitage as the source of the leak. I don't think any mis-statements/lies on Libby's part kept the truth from coming out. Libby just wound up looking like a perjurer.

I'm not a big believer in successful cover-ups/conspiracies.

Libby wasn't convicted by the media, but by a jury. Our press isn't perfect, but it's free. If you read newspapers or watch TV news, you will find as much conservative bias as liberal bias. The important thing is that people get the stories and are able to make their own judgments about them.

Seriously, I'm surprised to hear this opinion. Every metric I've seen political and social views confirms the vast majority of the media are solidly on the left. The only media where conservatives have the edge is with talk radio, and that was largely because it was relegated to a backwater status and eluded the hegemony of liberal establishment. ( Fairness Doctrine anyone? )

GWB will pardon Libby as soon as his appeals are exhausted. As he should.
