Same weather pattern around here. Squirrels can't find or get to their nuts, ground is frozen too deep. They are eating the tips of branches now. If it wasn't so sad, watching them out on the tip of a limb in a high wind is hilarious.

We’ve removed the squirrel stoppers from our bird feeders up here.

The only time I would think of putting food out for squirrels would be if it was on a trap.

My wife has a big heart for animals, domestic or wild, and feeds squirrels. I have to buy big bags of unsalted peanuts for her to feed them. They did become quite tame.

I was leaving the house by the front door when a nearby squirrel when up on it's hunches and gave me that look. I told it to follow me which it did like a faithful dog to the back door. It seemed happy to get it's load of peanuts.

Another time the neighbour was complaining that the garlic he had planted wasn't growing My wife discovered garlic growing in her garden which she had not planted. The squirrels must have been grateful for the peanuts and tried to return the favour. She never did tell the neighbour.

The squirrels ever did any damage to our house either.

Our ground isn't frozen that deep, just the top actually. Just got back from plowing everyone out and was hitting mud in some spots on the grassy areas.......damn snow is insulating the ground. Our field tiles still have water running out of them as well. Crazy weather

No. I live next to a park that many live trap them at their house and let them go here.
