Thank you for the good wishes Dave.

We were lucky. A microburst came across the lake and we could see the 100+ year old maple start to topple. Grabbed the dogs and made for the other side of the house. We felt the house move a bit when the tree hit and we lost a few porcelain items that were in a bookcase, but no damage inside. It took out a good run of fascia on either side of the peak, but apparently no further damage structurally or to the roof. Counting our blessings.

Oh, I misinterpreted the picture entirely. I though the tree was simply near the house, not on it. Yikes! You were very lucky if that is all the damage from that tree on your house. Hopefully the repairs and cleanup are quick and painless.

Yes, I was under the same misapprehension about the tree. Boy, you got off easy with that little damage to your house and no injuries. Time to buy a lottery ticket and with your luck it should more than pay for the damages.

The old willow pictured sort of central in our back yard is very old and could fall any season. Only blessing is it’s in a spot where it will only take down power lines and fences.
Can’t imagine the way the yard will look if/when that day actually happens.
Glad your damage was slight. Look at that root knot that lifted up ..

The root knot has a large circumference but did not go very deep. There was virtually no tap root.

We are on sandstone shale and we found a lot of big pieces of sandstone imbedded in the root tangle. Working to get them out so that the tree service guys can take it all apart and take it away.

Sound like you were lucky, or not, that it grew as big as it did.

Hard to hurt a willow, mike. They crave wet environments, like lake edges. I've never seen one uprooted, ever.!

If you have ever tried to pull out a willow tree stump you'll know why you've never seen one uprooted. Lombardy Poplar is more of the same.
