I actually also have a piece of 1/2" dowel a couple feet long & you can put it to the area suspected of making noise & the other end to your ear like a stethoscope.

A longer screwdriver also works well!

Phillips or regular doesn't make a difference!

Yeah. It helps to have someone tap around for you while you man the stethoscope!
Hard to do both at once!

Tim, I was going to mention the screwdriver because I've done it that way too but ya gotta be careful not to slip & scratch any chrome.

On none of my stuff do I worry about the scratches on the chrome.

I have enough scratches on my chrome that I'd rather black it out. That way I can rattle can it back. I was referring to customers bikes.
