It was like driving the USS Saratoga.
One of the Drive In's that my buddies and I used to go to charged by the person. While other's did try the 'Stuff the extras in the trunk' the theater had people who walked the isles watching for people being smuggled in and most got caught then kicked out without the refund for the people that they did pay for. Needles to say we never tried it.

Which brings to mind this Classic. At a bit under 10 minutes it's a bit long but damn does it bring back the memories--

The drive in outside of the small town I grew up in charged by the car, however they were only about a mile and a half from town and kids would walk out, then climb the fence and hope they could find someone who would let them sit in their car.

Tight turns were tough for sure but it had a smoooooth ride. Plus it had power steering not power assisted steering. You have your right arm around your girl and steer with your left index finger.

Yeah some people got caught but unlike the drive-in at the drag strip you parked and got out to sit in the bleachers. This was just the Saturday night races NOT the Gator Nationals. You couldn't get away with that at that race. I don't think they really cared as much Saturday nights

    I had one of these as a teen. 1965 Olds 98 L.S.
4 in the trunk, 4 across each seat. A little cramped with 12 people in it but it could be done. I remember counting the light bulbs on the inside and it was around 50 bulbs. In the ashtrays and all. The Memories! I stole the picture off the web but mine was exactly like this one. Color, hubcaps and all.

Nice. Here's my first car. Again stolen off the web but my car was identical, same color scheme and everything. 1962 Plymouth Valiant. At that time it was just some ugly car. Now it would be, " Whoa! Look at that cool old thing!"

It had the 170 slant 6 and the 3 on the tree. I actually would like to drive that car again...one more time, then I'm good.

I've owned a bunch of trucks too but it's harder to put surf racks on a truck. You can put them in the back but I've had one catch a draft and go aloft. I heard a noise. "What was that?" Then see it in the rearview land in the ditch like an arrow. It must have shot 50 feet in the air.

That slant 6 is probably still purring along. One f the best engines. Too bad the bodies rusted out around it up here where we salt the winter roads.

Yea, you couldn't get 5 years out of a car body without it needing major body work back then up here. My car is now 10 years old and still needs no body work. Sometimes the good old days were not so very good eh.

Yes, and the coldest blooded engine ever made for use in cold climates. It would usually start but never get hot enough to operate the heater and barely the defroster!
    Just my winters experience !
