Case in point. This rat snake is not only of no danger to humans but also eats rodents like rats that spread disease, damage property and are just a general nusance. They do a great deal to help us and yet people still fear and harm them

Thanked: 556We have black rat snakes. They are shy and tend to hang out in trees, so you don’t see them very often.
I came upon one sunning itself beside the foundation of our garage early in the summer. It was about the length of a piece of rebar and seemed about as thick as my forearm. By the time I recovered enough to get my phone out to take a picture, it had escaped into the tall grass.
We have no poisonous snakes around here, so I knew I was in no danger, but I still had the “it’s a snake” reaction.David

A lot of scary things are a are small and harmless but they nearly all give me the heeby jeebies .
I was mowing the lawn a few weeks back and a big ol frog jumped out of the flower bed. My goodness ( or something like that) I backed up so fast that i ended up on my bum.- - Steve

As a boy in Greenup Kentucky, I once saw a blue racer (snake). It was reared up in the field about 200 yards from me. We saw each other at the same time, but it reacted faster. It lit out towards me like a bullet out of a gun. I shattered my previous record in getting from the field into grandma’s house.
I can handle most snakes, but not that one. Spiders? Forget about it.

I agree. But some times you feel like you have to explain. Im guilty of it too. We should try to tame this a little more. Thanks for bringing it up, Tim.
Still, a nice pic, Slim. It's just Sharpening, right?
