It is about reducing the risk of infection or at least slowing the rate of infection down to a point where an already taxed health care system stands a better chance of coping.

So this is an autocrat telling his minions to do what he says?

If you are referring to my quote from Ecclesiastes that was not the point but rather when great danger confronts you remaining calm will sort out much of the trouble

Nobody is saying you have to do it. It is only advice from medical experts that won't guarantee you won't get infected but it might help slow the infection rate so the health care system might stand a chance of being overwhelmed. You do have a choice so please yourself.

    A good point.

Say in this town we have 100 hospital beds ,ventilators, etc.

We would rather have 100 people sick a week and need hospital care.

The virus will still effect 2500 that will need hospitalization but if it will be stretched over 6 months or so we can handle it.

Most people who get it will not have serious complications but we who are healthier should take those who are not into consideration and try not to spread it around.
On the one hand I agree with Mike that these things carry the function of culling the herd. On the other hand I remember the line in the country song, "Lord I wanna go to heaven but I don't wanna go tonight." We all know death is there for us but we live in a necessary denial of it. If we didn't we wouldn't still be here.
Personally I always try to favor quality over quantity

I 'think' what you are saying is exactly what the Powers That Be are trying to do with all of the school closures, event cancellations etc---

The problem I see with this is that are "The Powers That Be" might be trying to control the sheep in their flock similar to Solomon?
