"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law--justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former."

This is the backside of democracy taken too far. People feel they have the right to do whatever they want and in their selfishness rather pay a lawyer to get what they want than accept someone else's democratic rights. That's why I am in favour of enlightened despotism.

Of course then there's always anarchy. there are ups and downs to everything. To quote Ronald Reagan,"Vote with your feet."
Edit: point of fact the US isn't a direct democracy, it's a democratic republic.

There is what is legal and there is what is ethical. Justice is best served when both are present.

I've always been a big fan of voting with my feet.

I wasn't entirely sure of the difference between a democracy and a democratic republic so I asked my friend Google.

Unfortunately what is legal and what is just are very often NOT the same thing. Regardless of what place or system there will always be injustice as long as mankind fails to honor his fellow man as he honors himself.

    Just to be factual

A true Democracy is simple Mob Rule, there are none in the world today, the Swiss are the closest to it..

Can you imagine if we had to run to the polls for every bill? Fed, state, local... This Tuesday on the ballot, the farm bill, location of the next post office, which contractor should we pick for the repair of I-25.
If you're wondering I'm probably being sarcastic.

It is really impossible to all "stand on one rock" as the greeks did with a society so large. That is why the delegation. Direct democracy in the US would be a 3 billion person riot.
Direct democracy only works in small groups and sometimes not very well in those and only by mutual consent. That is why the hippie communes usually only lasted one generation.
