Thanked: 3228Legal Black Mail?
As if lawyers need more bad press. Just when I think I have heard it all I see something that looks to me like legal black mail but apparently isn't.

Anyone can sue anyone else for any reason. Often times settling is cheaper than hiring a lawyer to defend yourself in court.
A certain prominent family in this country whose name begins with T and ends with P has made liberal use of that tactic over the years. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Thanked: 13249Sounds the Health Officials kinda left this Restaurant owner out to flap in the wind
"The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has said that when people cannot maintain six feet of distance from one another, they are advised to wear a mask but it is not mandatory.
During the health unit's daily briefing Wednesday, Medical Officer of Health Wajid Ahmed said in a drive-thru where the distance between the server and the person is more than 2 metres and no direct interaction is taking place, it might be okay.
"But in a different type of takeout window where you are talking about the physical distancing piece that that cannot be maintained, then obviously we would recommend that people should be wearing a mask," he said."
This very ambiguous "Suggestions" and Regulations have caused confusion here in the US also.."No amount of money spent on a Stone can ever replace the value of the time it takes learning to use it properly"
Very Respectfully - Glen

Thanked: 3228Yup, it seems like the health unit wants to dodge being involved. What galls me is not the letter of intent to sue but that it includes the offer that payment of money will make it go away. To me that is tantamount to legal black mail. What a world.

The real issue is no matter where you live the legal system is so complex you are forced to pay someone in order to exercise your rights and make use of a system supposedly designed to make things right.
I can see it in criminal cases and corporate cases and in big complex issues.
Folks should just be able to appear before a judge who hears the two stories and renders a verdict just like "The people's court" on TV.
At one time monarchs spent a good bit of their time doing just that.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
