    Lightbulb Wireless Cameras

So I realize this is probably no big deal to most of you but we finally have enough WiFi speed to have wireless security cameras at the ranch

Took a bit of time but I started with the Genni HawkII after some downloading of updates and a few try to initialize the camera to the router and phone we have the first one up an running..

I think it is pretty cool, has night vision, and Motion Detection, plus a mic and a speaker in the camera..

"The Shan" thinks we need another for the back door/deck, I tend to agree

Anyone else using them while living rural

Two Christmas holidays ago I had two packages stolen off of my front porch. My neighbor across the street had video cameras and one of them saw the packages on the porch and then captured the van slowly drive by then back up and when it drove away and the packages were gone.

I called the police and was told that it was happening all over town and they basically just blew me off so I contacted the sellers and they sent new product.

I'd like to have some cameras of my own but I don't have a smart phone and it seems like EVERYTHING out there requires a smart phone instead of a Desktop Computer

I have recently been thinking about adding home security and cameras

I do all of my posting with either my phone or tablet.
I might turn on the home computer once or twice a year. It's become a real dinosaur.

Might be time to take the plunge...

I have thought about it but I don’t think my bandwidth is high enough to support decent cameras. I also need a new doorbell so I was thinking about the combined units.

I thought it was a thread about taking pictures of razors. I can see where not having to worry about having an extention cord attached to your camera would be handy.

Unfortunately these cameras provide a false sense of security for most. If they are recorded, they only provide evidence of past events. Most of the time the images from home security cameras are too grainy for identifying purposes. A smart thief can disable these cameras quickly with a laser. Also, a smart hacker can block the IP address or even send a false image to the IP address.

Unless you are monitoring 24/7, and have a reactionary response team ready at all times, they're pretty much useless for protective purposes. They are however a novelty and their images could, and I emphasize the word could, alert you to someone trying to gain access to your house. Wait, are you home?

Many of the new home security cameras are HD and alert you from your phone. I can be anywhere in the world and see and talk to people from my phone. Like you said though if your not home by the time you can do anything they are long gone.
At the end of the day they are a deterent and can lower house insurance.

A side note. Some security companies use data collected from your cameras and sell to 3rd parties. Amazon paid
1 Billion dollars for Ring, wonder why?
