I would be interested to hear if anyone comes across a system that couples
the motion detector to some sort of "alert" chime...something loud enough
to wake you at night.
Glen, you probably wouldn't want such a feature: you'd lose too much sleep,
what with all the moose passing by, setting off the alarm."If you come up to it, and you just can't do it, then that's jolly well where you are."

Unfortunately these cameras provide a false sense of security for most. If they are recorded, they only provide evidence of past events. Most of the time the images from home security cameras are too grainy for identifying purposes. A smart thief can disable these cameras quickly with a laser. Also, a smart hacker can block the IP address or even send a false image to the IP address.
Unless you are monitoring 24/7, and have a reactionary response team ready at all times, they're pretty much useless for protective purposes. They are however a novelty and their images could, and I emphasize the word could, alert you to someone trying to gain access to your house. Wait, are you home?

Thanked: 1083Many of the new home security cameras are HD and alert you from your phone. I can be anywhere in the world and see and talk to people from my phone. Like you said though if your not home by the time you can do anything they are long gone.
At the end of the day they are a deterent and can lower house insurance.Last edited by markbignosekelly; 03-01-2021 at 07:29 PM.

Thanked: 1083A side note. Some security companies use data collected from your cameras and sell to 3rd parties. Amazon paid
1 Billion dollars for Ring, wonder why?

In all probability someone up to no good will be wearing a hoodie and you'll see no details. Height and maybe weight is it. Probably motion sensor bright lights and a siren will scare them away. I know a guy who wired up some audio from a Godzilla Movie and hooked it up to a few speakers and if someone comes on his property motion sensors turn on floodlights and the audio. It could scare away the Devil.
If you have a doorbell camera you can't mount it on your front door if you have a storm door because the glass will interfere with many of the functions. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

When I was in the patch my wife felt better with all the bells and whistles alarm system with cameras and sirens, motion detectors. We moved from the previous home because of a break in, so we have it, but since I retired for good I haven’t even turned it on, got a mutt that will wake me up and I bite worse than the dog. But when I ain’t home it did make me feel better about the wife. Me if I lived where you do Glen, it would just be fun watching all the critters. Your off the beaten path but that just means you have more places to bury the bodies. P.s. turn off the cameras before you shoot them and disposal.
