Thanked: 13249Wireless Cameras
So I realize this is probably no big deal to most of you but we finally have enough WiFi speed to have wireless security cameras at the ranch
Took a bit of time but I started with the Genni HawkII after some downloading of updates and a few try to initialize the camera to the router and phone we have the first one up an running..
I think it is pretty cool, has night vision, and Motion Detection, plus a mic and a speaker in the camera..
"The Shan" thinks we need another for the back door/deck, I tend to agree
Anyone else using them while living rural"No amount of money spent on a Stone can ever replace the value of the time it takes learning to use it properly"

Two Christmas holidays ago I had two packages stolen off of my front porch. My neighbor across the street had video cameras and one of them saw the packages on the porch and then captured the van slowly drive by then back up and when it drove away and the packages were gone.
I called the police and was told that it was happening all over town and they basically just blew me off so I contacted the sellers and they sent new product.
I'd like to have some cameras of my own but I don't have a smart phone and it seems like EVERYTHING out there requires a smart phone instead of a DesktopComputer
Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 4828I have thought about it but I don’t think my bandwidth is high enough to support decent cameras. I also need a new doorbell so I was thinking about the combined units.

A friend of mine has them. The one on his front porch is inside the house and you can see it pointing at you when you walk up to the front door as it has a red light on it. Plus he has a sign next to the door that says something about you being on camera. His first problem with it was the red light. At night the light shining on the glass screwed up the picute with glare. Now he has changed the setting so when it goes into night mode the light goes off. You can still see it but the sign helps. Its tied into his computer system and with motion detector too. The picture is beautiful. And for wireless they really didnt cost as much as i thought.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Great thread Glen.
I'm very anxious to hear about different systems and their ease of use and setup.
Back before Christmas I had one of the delivery companies drop two very heavy boxes of furniture at my house. Looked like they just tossed them out of the truck halfway up my driveway. Turns out that they belonged up the road at another house. It would have been nice to see what company was involved with the delivery error so I could have made a complaint, possibly with pictures, to the proper source. A camera would have been the ticket. Took two of us to pick up each piece, place it in the truck and take them up the road to the right house.
I'm also pretty far out in the country which kinda makes my place an easy target.

Thanked: 557A heads up about these internet/wifi cameras.
Make sure you activate all security and privacy features and use a non-obvious password. There are hackers out there that have been posting live feeds and images from doorbell cameras and other unsecured surveillance cameras on their websites. This has included baby monitoring cameras and other inside the house monitoring cameras.
