I'm no fisherman by any means, I've trout fished and catfish along with fishing for salmon off of Seku in the Pacific Ocean but never for anything like a crappie (which I'm presuming is a relative to what's in Mike's bucket as they look very similar) but my uncle fished for crappie and after gutting he smoked cooked them whole. For the life of me I can't recall much about how they tasted or if you battled bones etc.
I did look up the catch limit on crappie here in Washington State and it's much different from yours Tim---
CRAPPIE, NORTHERN PIKE MINNOW, PEAMOUTH CHUB, PERCH, SUCKERS, SUNFISH, CATFISH (except CHANNEL), ROCK BASS, STRIPED BASS:
No min. size. No daily limit. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.
