O.k I suppose we can start getting more specialized and ridiculous :

Know the difference between a single action and double action revolver (pistol I suppose too).

Know the difference between a MIG and TIG welding machines (knowing how to lay down a nice bead wouldn't hurt either).

    Sad.
I actually know someone who was sent to "pinch shoot" for a couple of guys recently in Army basic so they could graduate.
Try as they might they couldn't qualify on the rifle.

I'm talkin about couldn't hit the deck with their cover if you gave them three tries.

That's right, there are at least two guys who absolutely, positively, cannot fire a rifle with any degree of accuracy somewhere in Iraq. (can't say where )

Makes the whole sharp knife thing seem trivial doesn't it?

(please don't misunderstand me to be saying that a sharp knife isn't important)

    Quite an enjoyable thread gentlemen.

I've only one to add (and am amazed that this has not been mentioned yet)...every man should know how to brew beer.

    Cheers,
    Ed

Yeah maybe that should be the starting point --- can't beat a good stick welding setup on ferrous material)
