looking for something different than a cigar, which I also
smoke. I would go to a tobacconist if you have one in your
area and talk to them about your likes and dislikes. Buy a
corncob to start off with (about $5.00) to see if you even
like it. I still use my corncobs when the mood strikes.
They're good because you can smoke it all day without
resting it, unlike a briar which most people will only smoke one
bowl out of it and let it rest a couple of days.

Another great site for everyone is tobaccoreviews.com. It basically
lists every type of pipe tobacco known to man and gives a
description of it and then there is an area where people give their
    own reviews. Enjoy.
+1 Eastree, Going to tobacconist is a great way to find out. Mine always invites me to try new blends in the shop. A good shop will let you try a sample bowl of tobacco before you buy it. I have my "smoke on Sunday" pipes, I have my everyday pipes and I have those that I don't need to rest much or at all. (Read, El Cheapo) I will pickup estate pipes from my favorite shop from time to time. Estates are used but reconditioned and sell for considerably less then they do new. A tobacconist will show you how to pack the bowl and light a pipe so it will stay lit. I smoke pipes more then cigars but I do smoke plenty of cigars. I smoke the pipe for aroma and the cigars for flavor. Many a smoker has had only one pipe in their lifetime. A quality briar can tolerate constant use but it is best that they do rest and let the moisture evaporate from them One tip too, use pipe cleaners, a lot. If you start to get a "gurgle" when your smoking, run a pipe cleaner through the stem to the bowl to soak up the moisture and you will enjoy your smoke a lot more. I usually run a pipe cleaner through the pipe before I put them away as this keeps the hole in the bowl and stem clear. I will occasionally dip a pipe cleaner in to bourbon or Scotch then run it through the stem to the bowl and then follow with a dry cleaner, then they rest for a week or so. This helps keep your pipes sweet.
I really enjoy a pipe when I'm working on razors, especially when I'm honing them, or polishing them.

I have been a pipe smoker since I was 17. I'm 21 now. I usually blend a custom ounce at the local shop and then smoke it until I'm ready to try something new.

    Default pipe smoking

    G'day all,
I use mostly a Petersens bent briar, and smoke mostly Borkum Riff Cherry Cavendish, occasionally DR Pat, because the tins hold 13 rounds of .577 minnie ball, enought for one rifle event, also Erinmore Flake. I do have my late fathers' Falcon pipe and his old corn cob.Was ver fortuate to get a long stemmed cherry wood pipe with a massive bowl from the local antique store a few years ago, that smokes very cool.

    Cheers

I've been smoking a pipe on and off for over 40 years and also cigars.
I quit cigarettes about 4 years ago and mainly smoke my pipes.
I have a rather large collection and smoke mainly Virginias and Virginia/Perique blends also called VaPers.

I really enjoy the American carvers of note but also have many of the Great Danes
As a matter of fact my SRP name of stogieiv is also my e-bay handle.

I also am a manager of a pipe BB called Merlin's Pipe Lounge.
If anyone has any questions about pipe smoking send me a PM or an e-mail.
    Ted
