Thanked: 90You know, it's funny, but I miss Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras doesn't seem right without Ash Wednesday the next morning. It bothers me to see all the partying that happens on Fat Tuesday done by people who have no idea as to the significance of Lent. That must sound odd coming from an atheist, but that's how it seems to me. I don't really party on Mardi Gras any more because of that.
I miss getting on the bus or the train in the morning on Ash Wednesday and being one of those people with an ash smear on my forehead and seeing all the other people that you see every morning and a few of them have the ashes on their head too. You're suddenly connected to them in a different way. You still don't know their names, and you still don't chat with them, but you nod a "Good Morning" to them now and know something about them that you didn't know before, and they know a little bit about you now.Last edited by joesixpack; 02-15-2008 at 07:12 AM.

Thanked: 90Actually, the last time I went to confession, the priest gave me a Rosary for my pennance. It'd been about 5 years since my last confession and I had a long list of "transgressions". I think Fr. Okieff had to take a break after hearing my confession. I did say the rosary, though.

Although a lot of Christian streams disagree. I see myself as a Christian as I'm a follower of Christ.
I'm LDS (Mormon, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) and VERY happy to be so.

Thanked: 22One thing that bugs me, is the way everything is being changed to be convenient with our modern ways of living.
Church starts an hour later coz 0900 was just too early for people, mass is offered on Saturdays in case you have to work Sunday (it used to be a sin to work Sundays) Mass never used to be in English, the priest never used to face parishioners and you never saw the priest face to face in confession.
I could go on and on, but stop here because this isn't exactly on topic.

Thanked: 13I'm Agnostic. Technically it's not really a belief, just a way of saying "I haven't got a fucking clue". As a scientist I think it's a good place to be: No scientific proof either way, so until there is I can't say either is true.
