The furious back peddling of Obama! (Can you hear the whistling of the wind?)
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/05...tical-counsel/
I wonder if the DNC super delegates will have the balls required to drop Obama, not that Clinton is any better, but I believe Obama is really demonstrating his inability to be an effective president!
I believe we face a serious problem in this country right now! Men like Wright, Jackson, and Sharpton will suffer from an Obama presidency as it renders their rhetoric impotent, yet if Obama loses, these same type of men will benefit from the riots that they themselves will help to spawn!
At this moment in history, America needs another Martin Luther King Jr. to save us from those who would create and capitalize on racial friction!

I normally try to stay away from political talk, but I thought I might chime in here.
I don't quite understand the point you are trying to make with this article. It would seem to me that Obama is declaring that his political agenda is not in any way tied to Wright, but that he does wish to continue their friendship. To me, as long as he is truthful with regard to the first part, I find it incredible that he is willing to preserve relationships with people, rather than throw them away for personal benefit like almost any other politician.
Now I realize that's a big IF on the first part, but I do really REALLY appreciate that Obama started out trying to run a clean campaign. The fact that they are having so much trouble coming up with dirt on him from his past is a sign to me that he actually is a good person. In the mean time, Hillary has been making up several lies that have been proven false by even the mass media, including denying NAFTA support, claiming explicitly on numerous occasions that she was under sniper fire with an elaborate made-up story, and circulating images of Obama dressed respectfully according to culture in middle-eastern clothing and calling him a terrorist. This is all available in footage available on YouTube for those who care to look it up. She has been playing dirty from the start and cannot debate on serious issues, only throw around insults and false accusations. I have lost all respect for the Clinton campaign.
That said, I also have a reasonable amount of respect for McCain. I would love to see Obama vs. McCain, and I personally think that the Dem support is so split right now that McCain will have an easy win.
*please note the above is based purely on character of the candidates and not the platforms they are running on.

The article just got me to see that Obama is obviously nervous and willing to say anything or go back on anything that he has said to please who he needs to to get nominated, and the thread was meant to go in that direction, but I got to considering some deeper questions while I was posting and the result is this thread! Disregard the article and comment on my thoughts, or comment on the article and disregard my thoughts!
I'm hoping that people will consider my thoughts more than the article, but since the thread title falls more in line with the article I think I'll leave it as is! Hopefully this won't cause any more confusion.

Come on guys...Is this the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about? This is an issue that will affect everyone in America! I would love for someone to show me I am wrong because believe me, this is one issue I have no wish to be right about!
If we can't, or won't openly speak about such issues and bring them to light then I truly fear for my country! By not talking about such problems, and facing these problems honestly, we allow them to grow worse while we quake in our boots with our heads in the sand hoping they will just go away! Have we become such cowards?
Like my mother always said, "for a boil to heal you have to pop it to rid yourself of the infection!"
The road ahead, I fear, will be fraught with danger. Hopefully we will face it like men and not ostriches!

Barack speaks passionately only when he is speaking vaguely. The more specific he gets, the more he pauses, is not confident, is dodgy, etc. I wouldn't vote for a liberal ticket anyway, but his demeanor just doesn't strike me as one coming from fine character. Honesty lends itself to consistency

How can we try to prove you wrong when we don't disagree?
Men like Wright, Jackson, and Sharpton are no better than David Duke...
The only difference is instead of parading in a hood, they call themselves reverend, and use religious establishments to spread their agenda.
Using the past, and negativity to aquire power, and calling it affirmative action is no better than burning crosses.
(The Elephant's out now)
I do not live in an area where anyone has to worry about men in white hoods... Maybe that makes me ignorant to the ways of the real world, but from what I've seen the biggest example of racism comes from those individuals who are supposed to be protected from it.
It comes in ambiguious statements in the form of " You don't like me because I'm _______." or, "You're treating me this way because I'm _______."
It's become a convenient way for much of our society to avoid responsibility for their own actions, and It's not just race, I've seen it used with gender, age, height, weight, etc...
The only group that can't use this cop-out is heterosexual caucasian males of average build... Sucks to be one of them, you'd have to actually accept responsibility for who you are, and what you do...
Barack is trying to distance himself from his religious leader, because the man showed his true nature.
This should not surprise us, all politicians do it.
We should observe, and learn from it, because it shows the true nature of this politician.
One day he writes a check to the man for thousands of dollars, the next, he disavows him, and tries to claim he didn't know he was a racist.
At least Obama's lies are more convincing than Hillary's
I'm of half a mind to write Monica Lewinski in for president, at least we know she was telling the truth...

Its all a moot point. If this country would elect Obama we have more problems than we realize. I personally dont see any chance of it.

my 2c:
Wright is a racist jerk, simple as that. That's nothing new. But now he is a racist jerk with media coverage, and so Obama, being the wily politician that he is, is running away from him as fast as he can.
MLK is spinning in his grave. Cosby got it right with the pound cake speech. Mike was spot on when he characterized this kind of grandstanding as no better than a similar kind of behavior from a couple of good 'ole boys in sheets.
Wright, apparently, is operating under the assumption that getting even will end the cycle, but in reality, nothing could be further from the truth. Wright can bitterly complain, "oh, but my parents were hassled back in the 60s by white folks because they were black, so I need to hassle white folks now to get even." Brilliant. Now does that mean when the current generation of white children grows up, they will be able to claim the same right and keep the hatred going?
Honestly, this guy, and everyone else like him, make me ashamed to be human.
