I think we can agree that Hitler and Stalin were movers and shakers. But role models? I think not.

Not unless murderous paranoia is a virtue.

In that vein, Napoleon might be better.

You know, that's an odd one. There seems to be some disagreement on that. The most common criticism of the man was that he had some sort of "short man" complex." However, the most authoritative thing I've read about that suggested that Napoleon was not, in fact, short. His height was said to have been misreported by the Brits when he died, possibly out of sheer vindictiveness. They said he was 5 foot 2. Other evidence suggests that it was closer to 5' 9", as I recall.

    So another legend dies.

    1. Jesus (love of fellow human beings)

    2. Socrates (wise ignorance)

    3. The unknown Soldier (selfless service)

All, for the willingness, courage and determination to serve a major cause than themselves

How do you mean ignorance? He is more commonly known for asking questions to spark ideas than shutting ideas out, right?

I think that you are right. But what you say may be consistent with "wise ignorance."

I believe that it goes something like this: Socrates claimed to be ignorant about the matters that the Sophists claimed to be wise. He questioned the Sophists about their subject of expertise and explored until (1) they could not explain any further or (2) they contradicted themselves. Then the Sophist will appear ignorant about what they claimed to be wise.

The Sophist claimed that he was wise but he wasn't. Socrates claimed that he was ignorant and he was. Hence, Socrates is wiser in believing that he ignores things and being right, while the Sophist is ignorant in believing that he knew matters but he did not.

Maybe Socrates was wise in claiming ignorance, a wise ignorance.
