Thanked: 4Lynn:
My favorite Brazilia is the Fishie (Piranha to you non-herfers). I like them best OTT, but they age nicely. The Anacondas are a lovely smoke for when you have 90 minutes or so to spare. I buy cigars from atlantic, rockys, esmokestack, and topshelf amongst other online vendors. herfersparadise.net is a good forum for anyone interested in cigars.

4 weeks ago I gave up smoking cigarettes. I always liked a good cigar too but right now I don't want to chance it. I just got back from a weekend golf trip to Myrtle Beach with 7 other guys. Everyone of them smoked. Wow I have never been the non smoker before in a group. I held out though.

Good for you Rich. I gave it up for good 4 years ago and could never go back. I still like smoking, just not cigarettes. Enjoyed a nice Dutch Mehari at my brother's wedding just last month. Of course, those Cubans aren't off limits up here in Canucka Land!

Oh I really love the cubans but then again I haven't tried too many brands. I had a friend go to France a number of years ago and he brought back a box of cubans. I really enjoyed the two he gave me.

Thanked: 4If you like Cubans, it's *cough* rumored that you can buy them over the net from certain overseas vendors and have guaranteed delivery to your door. I, of course, know nothing about this myself. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I had a friend bring me a box of Cubans from Costa Rica awhile back. I have to say dollar for dollar the Dominican Cohibas are much better, but so are the Montecristos and a few others.

Thanked: 1I was told, or read somewhere, that cubans are not what they used to be. Most of the growers and cigar makers moved after the embargo. The Dominicans, Nicaragins(sp?), etc used to be cuban growers. That being said when I was in Cancun for my honeymoon, I tried a couple of Cubans, and didn't find them any better then a good Cohiba or some of the other brands I've tried. Macanudo's are my favorite, next to a Cohiba.

Thanked: 79While I am not a cigar connoisseur, Cuban cigars were widely available when I went to Kuwait (and subsequently Iraq) 2 years ago. (has it been that long?-wow.)
One thing that is interesting, there was a reservist in my outfit who was absolutely a connoiseur of these things, and apparently the stuff from the Dominican Republic is now for the most part as good as or surpassing the Cuban stuff. He did make a few good recommendations however, and I was lucky enough to enjoy a nice Partagas (after having wasted my money on an expensive cohiba the first time).
Kindof like I wish I had known about SRP 2 years ago when I first came back and decided to buy a trusty Pakistani razor.......
Its nice to know people who really do know...
